In the early hours of June 7, the maintenance team from The First Engineering Bureau of CREC’s Hong Kong High-Speed Rail M1294-24C project successfully completed a 264-meter rail replacement in just 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The replacement took place on the outer rail of a 300-meter radius curve before the train’s arrival at West Kowloon Station. Due to the small curve radius and long-term train operation, the rail had sustained severe side wear. The project team assessed the wear progression in advance, predicted the optimal replacement timing, and submitted a replacement proposal to the client. Upon approval, the team promptly initiated preparatory work.
Due to a limited work window and the considerable length of the rail section, the project team developed a practical construction plan, conducted on-site simulation drills, and coordinated scheduling with other Hong Kong projects. As a result, the rail replacement was completed safely and efficiently within the allotted time.
